A modern kitchen extension for a Tooting terraced house, centred around a zinc-clad clerestory roof.
With back-of-houses spaces shifted to the darkest parts of the house, the original kitchen has been replaced with a full-width rear extension, offering an open-plan kitchen and living room area, suited to modern family life.
In a dense residential area of Tooting, the unique clerestory roof design brings light and height to the centre of the new kitchen space, without compromising privacy from the houses opposite.
Bringing daylight into the centre of the house, rooflights are strategically positioned to prevent overlooking and offer unique glimpses outside towards the nearby trees, as well as opportunities for sunlight to touch different parts of the space throughout the day.
Sitting on the kitchen island, the roof feels cathedral-like in scale, creating a unique living experience at this Tooting house extension.
Externally, the zinc standing seam cladding beautifully sculpts the clerestory roof and contrasts well with the white render to the external walls. Internally, there is a palette of teal, mirrored tiles and herringbone flooring, with LED lighting providing light accents across the space in the evenings.
