The complete reimagining of an existing South Croydon home.
The house underwent an extensive refurbishment, including a side garage conversion, a side extension, a loft conversion and rear extensions; to add new open-plan living accommodation, an additional main bedroom suite and dedicated space to house a car collection.
The design respects the traditional streetscape at the front, transforming as it unfolds toward the rear. The rear elevation commands attention, establishing a strong architectural identity. Here, the dark material palette of charred larch and zinc cladding sets the tone, creating a bold, yet elegant contrast to the conventional front elevation. These materials were chosen not only for their durability but also for their texture and depth.
Internally, light-filled, open-plan layouts define the spaces, offering both intimacy and expansiveness. The kitchen and dining area form the heart of the home, with high ceilings, exposed beams, and soft, neutral tones that amplify the sense of space and airiness. The palette of warm woods, natural textures, and clean lines ensures the interiors feel welcoming.
The rear extensions maximize the site’s natural advantages, with expansive glazing framing panoramic views down the South Croydon hill toward London. A sense of volume is accentuated by exposed vaulted ceilings and clean lines.
This is a house that embraces contemporary living, where every detail, from the material palette to the spatial arrangement, has been carefully considered to create a home that is both functional and beautiful.
