This Herne Hill rear extension project transforms a Victorian terrace with a sustainable brick rear extension, thoughtfully designed around the family’s love for cooking and spending time together.
A half-height wall divides the kitchen, creating a practical workspace for cooking while maintaining a connection to family members seated at the dining table opposite. A cozy sofa area adds a relaxed zone, turning the space into a multifunctional family hub.
The open-plan space is left uncluttered, with all services relocated centrally to optimize the layout. This includes a discreet WC and a walk-in utility room/pantry. A full-height, cathedral-like window above the sink serves as a striking focal point, framing a tree in the garden and capturing attention from the moment you step through the front door. Exposed beams highlight the house’s structure, emphasizing both craftsmanship and sustainability.
Sustainability underpins the project with an air source heat pump, locally sourced materials, energy-efficient wooden windows and doors, and low-carbon construction methods. This Herne Hill rear extension creates a light-filled, sustainable, and functional home, perfectly tailored for modern family living.
