This full house renovation, rear extension and loft conversion transformed a typical semi-detached house in Purley into a spacious contemporary family home designed around the needs of a growing family.
Having lived in the house for many years, our clients loved the location but had outgrown the existing layout. The house felt dark, dated and increasingly difficult to use for everyday family life. They wanted enough space for each child to have their own bedroom while creating a sociable ground floor that could accommodate large family gatherings and celebrations.
Our design completely reimagined the home, introducing a substantial rear extension that creates a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space at the heart of the house. Large areas of glazing bring natural light deep into the plan, while a carefully coordinated palette of oak, terrazzo, brass detailing and bespoke joinery creates a calm, contemporary feel throughout.
Storage and practicality were central to the design. A dedicated boot room, utility space and integrated joinery keep everyday family life organised, allowing the main living areas to remain open and uncluttered. Full-height doors and carefully detailed interiors give the home a refined, hotel-inspired atmosphere without compromising comfort.
The loft conversion provides additional bedrooms and includes one of the home’s most memorable features: a secret tunnel concealed within a wardrobe that leads to a hidden study and play space tucked within the eaves.
Throughout the house, bespoke joinery creates places to sit, gather and relax, from the window seat overlooking the trees to the curved banquette dining area that brings the family together each day.
The result is a bright and highly functional Purley family home that supports modern family life, providing space to gather, celebrate and grow together for years to come.
