A house extension and full refurbishment.
This detached family home on a leafy street in Surbiton underwent a first floor extension and full house refurbishment to create a contemporary, functional space for family life. By opening up the existing ground floor, the kitchen becomes the heart of the home, anchored by a curved island with slatted timber detailing. It’s a space for cooking, gathering and conversation.
A Space to Gather
One of our favourite design elements at the Surbiton house, is the curved banquette seating. We wanted to give the family a comfortable spot where they could sit together, whether for meals, homework, or simply catching up. The leather upholstery and slatted timber details add warmth and texture, whilst a skylight overhead bathes the area in natural light.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Flow
Large glass doors and a bi-fold window blur the boundary between the house and the leafy Surbiton garden. An outdoor breakfast bar bridges the indoor and outdoor spaces, ideal for summer mornings with the kids or hosting friends for drinks.
An understated wall of vertical timber slats conceals ample storage and utility spaces, keeping the home clutter-free. Every detail ensures practicality while maintaining a calm and organized aesthetic.
From its tactile materials to its light-filled spaces, this Surbiton home is designed to make daily life easier and more enjoyable. It’s a space that celebrates connection—between family, between inside and outside, and between the materials and light that shape it.
