This Sanderstead rear extension and renovation was designed to replace an outdated conservatory with a functional, open-plan space that meets the needs of a modern family. Our clients wanted a layout that allowed the whole family to come together while also accommodating separate activities within the same area.
Moving through the house, steel-framed glass doors allow light to filter into every corner, creating a sense of openness while maintaining distinctive zones for living, dining, and relaxing.
A glazed partition was introduced to separate the main open plan space and reception room, offering flexibility; When open, the partition connects the two areas for gatherings and celebrations. When closed, it allows each space to function independently, whether for quiet time or focused activities.
Respecting the Sanderstead home’s original character, materials were selected to complement the existing architecture. Brown-red bricks were used for the house extension with brick patterns to introduce a contemporary twist.
Inside, the design merges practicality with style. The kitchen cabinets feature an industrial texture, while the herringbone wood flooring throughout the ground floor brings warmth and tactility.
A continuous stretch of custom joinery runs from the front to the rear of the house, incorporating a fireplace, TVs, storage, and a dining banquette. This design maximises functionality while maintaining a clean and cohesive aesthetic.
