A light-filled kitchen dining space in Addiscombe.
This Addiscombe house extension and internal reconfiguration transforms a traditional family home into a light-filled, open plan kitchen, dining and family space designed for everyday living. A rear extension opens up the ground floor, creating a generous layout that brings the whole family together.
At the heart of the home is a split-level kitchen island, with a practical working kitchen on the lower side and a raised surface for eating, homework and conversation. This simple shift in level allows children to stay connected while parents cook, supporting the rhythms of family life.
Handleless cabinetry is paired with warm walnut joinery and a fluted timber island, adding texture and depth while keeping the space calm and uncluttered. Rooflights and large sliding doors draw natural light deep into the plan and strengthen the connection to the garden.
Soft curves in the ceiling and joinery reference the home’s original character, while a built-in window seat creates a relaxed dining area for gathering. This Addiscombe rear extension balances practicality with warmth, creating a contemporary family home that feels both connected and easy to live in.
