This ground-floor refurbishment transformed a 1920s house in Addiscombe, creating a home full of personality, colour and character without extending the existing footprint.

Although the house had been recently renovated, the layout wasn’t making the best use of the available space. A long, narrow room felt awkward to use, the kitchen felt constrained, and the ground floor lacked the sociable atmosphere our client wanted for everyday life and entertaining.

Rather than undertaking major structural alterations, the design focused on rethinking how the spaces worked together. By relocating the utility room and WC, opening up key sightlines and repositioning entrances, the ground floor now feels more connected, with views extending from the front door through to the kitchen beyond.

Inspired by the house’s 1920s heritage, period details including wall panelling, cornicing and bespoke joinery were carefully reintroduced throughout the interior. Working closely with the homeowner, every room was designed to reflect her individual style, combining bold colours, artwork and playful details with a strong sense of cohesion.

The result is a bright and welcoming Addiscombe home that feels both timeless and deeply personal — proving that thoughtful interior design can transform the way a house is experienced without adding a single square metre.
